What is “Iatros”?

Dr. Vincent Tichenor, MD is a board-certified Family Medicine physician licensed in the state of Missouri. “Iatros” is the ancient Greek word for “physician”. In the Gospels, it is the word Jesus Christ used to describe part of His ministry when he said, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick.” (Luke 5:31). Here at Iatros, we are dedicated to continuing in the spirit of Jesus’ ministry by being His hands for those who are sick.

Meet Dr. Vincent Tichenor

Dr. Tichenor is a native of the Ozarks, having grown up in the hills outside of Roaring River State Park in Cassville, MO. As a three season athlete, he attended Southwest Baptist University, Bolivar Mo where he graduated Summa Cum Laude in Chemestry and Biology. Additional honors included the Life Beautiful Award.

Upon College graduation he was commissioned to the United States Air Force, continuing his education at Saint Louis University School of Medicine. It was during this time that he met and married the love of his life, Kaila.

Following Medical School graduation, he served his Residency while stationed at Scott AFB, Bellville, IL. Upon Residency completion, military orders transferred their young family of four to Barksdale AFB, Shreveport, LA., where he served as Medical Director of the 2nd Medical group. During this time he was deployed to East Africa with Special Forces, overseeing medical care for our troops serving in the area. Dr. Tichenor was the recipient of several awards from the US Air Force, including: Provider of the quarter, Provider of the year, and the Joint Service Commendation Medal.

Regardless of the miles or distance the USAF took him, the Ozark’s held a special place in his heart. Upon completion of his Air Force commitment in 2020 the Tichenor family returned home to the Ozark hills, settling in the Branson area.

His faith in Christ is paramount to all that Dr. Tichenor does. He became a follower of Christ at an early age, and has been on God’s wild adventure ever since. On this journey God has invited him to serve on multiple short term mission projects to Nicaragua, Uganda, India, and Mexico, as well as throughout the United States. It was for this purpose he chose to pursue medicine, sensing God specifically called him to do so. Vincent and Kaila, along with their children, continue to seek where and how God wants them to serve, and to do so faithfully.

Dr. Tichenor’s attention was piqued to the idea of opening a DPC during medical school. He observed the high costs of insurance, long waits to schedule appointments, and desired a better way to serve patients. His dream was to embrace a patient care model where the doctor truly knows his patients and the patients know their doctor. God provided initial opportunities to learn about the medical needs of the greater Ozarks area while serving at Cox Urgent Care and as the company Medical Director & Doctor for Bass Pro Shops. In the summer of 2024, the Tichenor family sensed God was telling them “now is the time” to launch out on their dream.

Dr. Tichenor and his family are excited to see what God does through their practice, and are eager to serve the people of the greater Branson and Ozarks region.
